Thennext thing you know, you are on your way to playing piano. It is visually helpful along with takingit slowly but purposely, and it is subtle in adding new things. I can't waitto purchase Alfred's Level two and three when finished with this book. Alfred's Level One Book was just the ticket. It is far and away thebest beginner's book because it doesn't frustrate the beginner byleaping forward too quickly.
No big deal, I just penciled in the correct note, but it did take some tracking down to make sure that I am correct. The first 2 F#'s that are in the song should be F naturals. Excellent book for beginners. You get to the end of the book and find out that you have to copy your award certificate because it is on the back of a simplistic version of "The Entertainer".Just my two cents, but, again, overall GREAT book. That is in bar three (3) and bar eleven (11) in the song. Also, when I got to the end of the book I was so happy that I completed it and the award certificate is cute as well, I just wish it were on another page, seriously. I started playing the piano when I was in grade school, a girl would go and have her piano lessons, and then come home and teach them to me. This book helped me to remember more than anything. The only irk(s) I have with it is, maybe it is just my copy (although I doubt it.)., the Greensleeves song (on page 82-83), has a note that is incorrect.
I highly recommend this book along with the supplements (Alfred's Sacred Book 1 and Greatest Hits 1). Now I have three different students working out of it, and all three are doing very well. I have had very good success with this book for beginning adult piano students. I have just recently begun teaching lessons, so I chose this book and studied it before I began teaching.
I highly recommend this book. It builds on skills slowly and it's a great reminder of fingering, reading music and the arrangements are perfectly written for me to really feel like I am breezing through the lessons. I am probably already ready for Book 2 but I really want to master this one first. I am 38YO and have not played since I was 11. This book is perfect for me.
The pages are clear and precise, the diagrams easy to see, and the concepts clear. I found the book very good, but the CD has a really cheesy soundtrack which sometimes drowns out the piano examples. Overall I would say that this is a good book for the beginner and you really should buy it WITH the CD, just try and forget the awful din coming from your speakers; just listen to the piano examples to see what it should sound like. I bought the book AND the CD from Barnes & Noble. I don't know why Amazon doesn't stock them both together.
